The Golden Age 9" x 12" oil on panel |
We recently visited a dear friend of ours at his amazing
Los Felez Hills home. It's one of those unique old hillside homes where you park on a narrow street and then walk up 64 steps past terraced gardens of orchids and roses before you get to the front door. He has owned the house since 1969 and still makes this vertical trek a few times a day - maybe that's why at nearly 78, he still has the physique and good looks of a Hollywood movie star. The balcony off his living room has a tremendous view which prominently features the
Griffith Observatory and
Hollywood Sign among other iconic LA landmarks. As the sun sets and the blue sky turns to rich shades of silver and gold, the observatory and surrounding homes turn into sparkling jewels set into the wooded hillside. I pushed the color a bit towards the ambers and golds and titled it "The Golden Age" as an homage to the area's rich legacy of movie making - and also a tip of the hat to our good friend who made a long and successful career in the film industry.
