a hazy shade of winter.........

a hazy shade of winter   8" x 10"  oil on panel
With a nod to the hit song of the 60"s done by Simon and Garfunkel, this is what my little town looked like last week after the multiple snow storms which hit the east coast.  A cold morning, an overnight snowfall with another storm approaching.  The sky had that pre-storm darkness that sucked all the color out of everything leaving only shades of browns, greys and milky whites.   What grabbed my attention was the abstract patterns left by the car tires on the snowy/slushy road. The old school house stands silently in the background.  The monochromatic image reminded me of the subdued colors of Howard Pyle's illustrations.  A little of the burnt sienna toned canvas is peeking through here and there.

I love how you made this scene...which many would overelook as boring or dull...into something wonderful...your description, "The sky had that pre-storm darkness that sucked all the color out of everything leaving only shades of browns, greys and milky whites," is perfect.
