Waiting For A Ride

waiting for a ride   9" x 12"   oil on panel

A new painting from my recent Charleston visit.  The town has many horse-drawn carriage tours, so it's not unusual to see a horse around every corner.  I was walking in the city's Downtown District early one morning and happened upon a horse being groomed in the doorway of the Carolina Polo & Carriage Company.  I thought the composition of the strong light, striped shadows, the rose colored building and partial highlight of the horses head in the dark archway created an exceptional composition - a special place and time that all artists always hope to stumble upon.
