New Three-Day Workshop in Texas

I am pleased to announce that I have just scheduled a new workshop for October 6-8 at the beautiful Bide-A-While artist retreat in Dickinson, Texas.

Whether you are a beginner picking up a brush for the first time or someone returning to art after a long time away from the easel, this workshop is designed to be both informative and fun. Beginning with a discussion on the “basics” of painting (from materials to paint handling), the workshop will also address the fundamentals of composition, color, value, edges and perspective. I will begin each day with a short painting demo with explanation of my process along the way. 

On the first day of the workshop, participants will  work from a still life to paint quick studies that incorporate the fundamentals discussed, with plenty of one-on-one individual instruction throughout the day.  The second day of the workshop will explore techniques to quickly transfer the important elements of a reference photo to the canvas, as well as creating an artistic painting rather than simply rendering a photograph.  The third day of the workshop will focus on painting en plein air, including how to develop greater skills of observation, simplification,  and quickly painting “wet on wet” (alla prima) to translate what you see and experience into strong paintings. Participants will paint outdoors within the picturesque Bide-A-While retreat.   The basic goal for each day of this workshop will be to develop an ability to create loose, accurate, expressive and “painterly” paintings!

Workshop fee is $285.00.  Art supplies and materials are not included in the workshop fee.  An additional $150 facility fee is also required. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the workshop each day with complimentary sodas, bottled water, teas and coffee throughout each day.

There will be an arrival reception Thursday evening (October 5th) with wine, cheese and appetizers to welcome all participants. On one of the evenings, the group will go to Galveston Island to visit several galleries and enjoy dinner.
