Plein Air Workshop at Olana
Three-Day Painting Workshop with Dan
Graziano
August 24-26, 2018 Hudson, New York
Olana
was the home, studio and artist-designed landscape of the nineteenth-century
landscape painter Frederic Edwin Church, the premier artist of the Hudson River
Valley art movement. Church spent forty
years designing and perfecting his vision for the 250 acre Olana estate,
embracing architecture, art and landscape into one integrated environment. His design combined natural landforms with
the careful layout of carriage drives, ponds and extensive plantings of trees
and shrubs to conceal, reveal and frame vistas of the property and the wider
Hudson Valley.
This
unique workshop provides participants the opportunity to paint within the singular beauty of the Olana estate. The
first day begins with a discussion of the “basics” of painting (from materials
to paint handling) as well as the fundamentals of composition, color, value,
edges and perspective. Instruction will focus on painting en plein air,
including how to develop greater skills of observation, simplification, and
quickly painting “wet on wet” (alla prima) to translate what you see and
experience into strong paintings. Participants will paint outdoors at different
locations each day and include a short painting demo by Dan.
Workshop fee
is $350. Students
supply their own art supplies and equipment - lunch is not provided. To register for this workshop, CLICK HERE.

Great workshop. Dan is a good teacher, very laid back, but keeps it structured so that we didn't spend too much time on any one piece. Daily demos with clear takeaways. Got my money's worth. Would highly recommend. Thank you!
