El Rey Theater

El Rey Theater  20" x 30"  oil on canvas

Just finished this one last Saturday.  I edited out the shadows on the marquee cast by the trees in the median of Wilshire Boulevard (took the median out too).  I wanted to create a bright focal point with the marquee and primary blade sign.  The theater has been painted by many artists, such as Francis Livingston - one of  my favorite contemporary painters.

One of LA's art deco treasures, the El Rey Theater was built in 1936 and is now among the best live music venues in the city.
